Professor of Laboratory Archaeology at the University of Tartu, with over 30 years of experience in the study of early settlement in the Eastern European forest zone and Stone and Bronze Age societies. His research focuses on settlement formation in the Baltic Sea region and its relationship with palaeoecology. He collaborates across multiple scientific fields - including ancient genetics, geology, and palaeoecology - combining interdisciplinary approaches with extensive fieldwork on prehistoric sites. In the FORAGER project, he is responsible for the archaeological contextualisation of study materials in the Eastern Baltic.
