I am a prehistorian and biomolecular archaeologist, specializing in the molecular and isotopic analysis of organic archaeological remains. My research centers on subsistence and cooking practices in prehistoric societies, with a focus on understanding the evolution of food processing technologies and culinary traditions.
In FORAGER, I lead the investigation into the evolution of food processing technologies and culinary practices across all regions (WP4.3). I bring my expertise in organic residue analysis of hunter-gatherer pottery, using ceramic records as a key source of culinary evidence in the Baltic, NENA, and Japan regions. Additionally, I am developing an organic residue approach to recover lipids from fire-cracked rocks (FCR), a major culinary tool in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). My work integrates high-throughput workflows to analyze hundreds of pots, building large datasets to quantify changes in culinary traditions in relation to food availability and diet.
