Ester Oras is the Professor of Archaeochemistry at the Institutes of Chemistry, and History and Archaeology, at the University of Tartu in Estonia. She is the founder and director of the interdisciplinary Archemy Lab and the leading expert in organic residue analysis in the eastern Baltic. Ester has worked extensively on reconstructing diet and subsistence practices of hunter-gatherers and early farmers in the Baltics using pottery lipid residue, stable isotope and dental calculus protein analysis.

In FORAGER, Ester plays a key role in developing sampling strategy, analysis and interpretation of the organic residues from the eastern Baltic, providing access to data and materials available from sites across the region. She is also co-supervising York PhD student Isaac Jervis’ ACCE+ project on sex-selectivity in hunter-gatherer cervid’s hunting strategies.
