I am a professor of archaeology at Université Laval (Québec, Canada) and holder of a Canada Research Chair in biomolecular archaeology. My research focuses on precolonial northeastern North America (NENA), with a particular emphasis on food and the cultural practices surrounding it. Within FORAGER, I lead research in the NENA region, where demographic and ecological modelling (WP1, WP3) will reconstruct the complex transformations that took place during key periods of demographic booms and busts. Functional analysis of hunter-fisher-gatherer pottery will be compared with botanical and faunal records to reconstruct subsistence and site catchment (WP4), while trait-based documentation of pottery will explore social learning networks and cultural inheritance (WP5). Research conducted within NENA combines scientific and traditional knowledge through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach grounded in community-based fieldwork and sustained collaborations with members of the Anishinaabe First Nation, including award-winning chef Cezin Nottaway.
