Mari is a bioarchaeologist specializing in human osteology, dietary stable isotopes, and prehistoric mortuary practices, integrating archaeological and biochemical approaches. Her interdisciplinary research spans hunter-gatherer and early farming populations, focusing on diet, mobility, identity, and funerary traditions in Northern and Eastern Europe. She also develops stable isotope research capacity and leads transdisciplinary initiatives. In the FORAGER project, she is responsible for the strategic planning of compound-specific stable isotope sampling for hunter-gatherer studies and supervises PhD/postdoctoral research at the University of Tartu.
